End
Breakfast and a leisurely start. We went out at 0945. Quite a few didn’t come because they weren’t feeling well.
We went to the Viceroy building but couldn’t go inside because the president was coming the next day so it was undergoing maintenance. It is now the post doctoral study centre for Indian advanced studies. I bought a book from their bookshop.
We walked around the gardens for a bit.
The bus took us into the town. We had been told we would have the afternoon free but by this time it was already 1200 and then they said we would return by 1515. John, Jenny and Geoff all decided to go back to the hotel.
We were shepherded up in two lifts to go up several levels to Mall street. We walked along to the scandal point, the Hindu temple and then back along the street for lunch. The lunch took a while - the chap said he had a little kitchen - so you wondered why the guides had arranged to eat there!!
We were supposed to go to a church but most of us declined and went around the shops instead. I managed to get 10 meters white cotton for 80 rupees a meter.
We met up with the others at 1530 and Jeanine was keen to continue her shopping. Some of us came back and they carried on. I felt aggrieved about having to give tips!
At the hotel I had a rest. Went down to pool but decided not to swim. The pool looked dirty, scummy and was quite cold.
Back up for tea. Tony back up and about. Shakeel showed himself for the first time - mainly to confirm the timings.
